Fixed four-day-week quick answer

A Monday–Thursday week makes the Christmas boundary unusually efficient.

If Friday is always a normal non-working day, two proposed leave days can join Christmas, New Year and two weekends into an 11-day break. The result depends on the relevant bank holidays also being confirmed non-working days for you.

Request Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 December 2027.

The break runs from Friday 24 December 2027 through Monday 3 January 2028. It assumes a fixed Monday–Thursday week, usual weekends off, and 27–28 December plus the 3 January 2028 substitute holiday confirmed as non-working.

Pattern scope

Fixed repeating weekdays—not a rotating schedule.

“Four-day week” can describe different contracts. This page models only a schedule with the same normal working weekdays every week.

Fits

Mon–Thu or Tue–Fri

Select four fixed normal workdays and enter a confirmed whole-day planning balance.

Does not fit

4-on-4-off rotation

A repeating shift cycle moves across weekdays. Use the dedicated 4-on-4-off planner.

A fixed four-day week may be part-time, compressed full-time hours or another agreed arrangement. This planner does not calculate entitlement or convert longer compressed days into hours. Use only a whole-day balance your employer has already confirmed.

Exact worked example

How two proposed leave days could create 11 days away.

The two leave dates remain inside calendar year 2027. The natural break continues into 2028 because the usual Friday and weekend are followed by the official New Year substitute holiday on Monday 3 January.

Your normal day off matters

Monday–Thursday and Tuesday–Friday unlock different dates.

The planner counts a bank holiday only when it falls on a normal working day and your employer confirms it is non-working.

The Tuesday–Friday example proposes 23–25 March for 10 days away from 20–29 March. Monday is already the normal day off; Good Friday is the distinct bank-holiday support. Regional and employer rules can change which holidays are non-working.

The starting settings reproduce the Christmas example: England and Wales, two confirmed leave days, a minimum 10-day break and a Monday-to-Thursday week. Change any input to match your confirmed position.

This tool models fixed repeating weekdays and equal whole leave days. For hours-based or rotating arrangements, use the specialist planners linked above.
